We decided to become Foster parents in 2009. After almost a year of interviews, meetings, forms and question we officially became foster parents in July 2010.
Fostering is hard. We have learnt a lot about each other, our parenting, ourselves, our relationship, our kids and the problems little tiny people face in today’s world. It is a strange world to live in when your heart aches for a child that is being taken from its home, yet you eagerly anticipate a phonecall that a little one is coming to join your family for a little while.
For now, we are just emergency carers. Taking in kids for short times while the powers at be work out where their young lives are headed. This is a sad, frustrating, joyous time. Who knows….maybe one day we will look at become a home for a lifetime to one of the kids who walks through our door.
We are now long term carers to a beautiful boy who originally came for just 2 days (as is the way it goes sometimes) This little boy is a part of two families, his biological one which he will grow up knowing about as much as possible, and the one he found when he was just 1 month and 1 day old.
We are still Emergency carers…but I have asked for a child that doesn’t yet walk, I don’t think I could handle 5 kids under 7 running in different directions!
